Intrepid Air & Space, New York, NY
Back

The Internet is a wonderful thing, instant information - assuming the dunderhead webmaster gets round to creating the page when the event takes place... This visit took place in 2002, it's now 2004. Internet time runs a bit slower in this corner of the planet.

The Intrepid Air & Space Museum is located on New York's west side, at about 42nd Street. The USS Intrepid and a couple of other warships are the center pieces of a very interesting museum complex. Since this visit took place, a Concorde Supersonic airliner has been added to the collection on a barge sitting amoung the other ships.

There is an entrance fee, but the museum is open most of the time. Visit their web site here

The USS Intrepid has become something of a local landmark, it is afterall a rather large WW II aircraft carrier! The aircraft that the museum owns offer not only a look at US Naval aviation but also a little slice of some other interesting aviation achievements. One such item is an SR-71. But of equal note, this is one of the few locations in the USA where a French naval Dassault Etandard fighter can be seen.

If you have the mulla, the hangar decks of the aircraft carrier are available for rent - have your b'day party in STYLE! Just remember, if you have to ask how much, you can't afford it!
