2009 Race Calendar
Back

These are the dates that the FIM and AMA have made available. They WILL change.

2009 is one of the most stressed racing calendars in many decades. The economic uncertainties are changing the MotoGP scenery as the year starts. Gone is Kawasaki. Who else will fall by the wayside? In the US, the championships in in new hands with the AMA having sold it's interests in the various series to DMG. The fall-out from this has not yet been fully realised, but looks to have eliminated both Honda and Suzuki from the races.

It's been several decades since the last time grids were under this much strain to keep up numbers, MotoGP in particular is going to find it hard to put up the required numbers of motorcycles. AMA racing got around such issues by allowing in riders on machines that were far less capable than the full on Superbikes. DMG will have this same approach.

So far World Superbike seems to be the least impacted series. While there are all sorts of rumours surrounding a Rossi/Bayliss showdown, it has to be said that it would be a somewhat pointless exercise, and only take away from a series that looks healthier than it has done in years. The new machines from BMW and Aprillia have not yet been cut out by economic woes, time will tell if they can be developed into winners.

Race Calendar 2009 (you may have to right click this and use "Save As") in iCal format for use in appropriate calendars (Mozilla Calendar & Sunbird, Lotus Organizer, etc) - (up to date as of 02/14/2009)

Note: Loading the latest calendar will not find entries of a prior calendar, you may have to remove old entries before loading the new calendar, unless you can selectively show and remove calendars.
